Here we are on episode 10 of Mindful Movements Yoga with Swenja Tanner on Muskegon, Better.  It’s our weekly moment to bring you a practice that can help you body and mind in a natural and healthy way.  This week, Swenja is going to be showing you some of the fundamentals and poses that are most common in yoga.  If you are more practiced in the discipline, this will be an easy week for you.  If you are new to all of this, think of this week as a great starting point where you can gain a little expertise.

It’s a standing experience this week.  We’ve been seated for a few episodes now and to bring you to your feet to learn some of the poses and stretches that will benefit your back, core and legs are a priority this week.  Swenja is not leaving out the arms or the breathing.  Breathing in through the nose is a HUGE part of yoga.  This cleanses the breath and heats the body. Begin to extend the inhale and the exhale to five counts each, matching the duration and the tension on the inhale as well as the exhale.  It’s also nice for a little oxygen rush as you bring it in.

Remember, with any physical activity, it’s important to know your limits.  Swenja is a long time practitioner of yoga.  If you are new to the experience, take your time to get into the motions and don’t over do it.  Injuring yourself is the fastest way to ruin an amazing experience that will only enrich your life for years to come.  Keep in mind too as your progression continues, that adding a healthy eating habit will add a lot to you’re program as will upping your physical fitness in other ways.  On the Muskegon Channel, we have a weekly feature called Fit and Healthy With Becky and you’ll find a great new weekly work out there.

Swenja doesn’t have any current adventures booked, but…..stay tuned.  She’s very active in the idea that the yoga experience in a destination setting is an amazing way to enhance the practice.  Not only that, but you also get to be a part of the group who enjoys the activity and can share more.  It’s a great way to meet people and be a part of something bigger.  Stay tuned to find out where she’s taking you next!
